In cross-border logistics, the damage rate of goods caused by carton breakage is as high as 3%-8%, directly affecting corporate profits and brand reputation. B2B users (especially cross-border e-commerce platforms and industrial manufacturers) often face three major challenges when selecting cartons: insufficient load-bearing capacity leading to stacking collapse, poor moisture-proof performance causing goods mildew, and detention by customs for failing to meet the compliance standards of the target market. Therefore, scientific selection is the key first step to reduce logistics risks.
Load-Bearing Performance: Match Corrugated Type by Transportation Scenario
Lightweight goods (single carton weight <5kg): Choose B-flute or E-flute cartons with compressive strength ≥150kPa, suitable for express delivery;
Medium-weight goods (5kg ≤ single carton weight ≤15kg): Adopt BE-flute or AB-flute with compressive strength ≥250kPa, suitable for pallet stacking;
Heavy/fragile goods (single carton weight >15kg): Select AAA-flute or 7-layer corrugated cartons with compressive strength ≥400kPa, paired with reinforced paper corners.
Moisture-Proof Level: Classified by Transportation Environment
Ordinary sea/land transportation: Use moisture-proof corrugated paper with moisture content ≤12%;
Humid and hot regions (Southeast Asia, South America): Adopt laminated cartons or VCI anti-rust cartons with moisture-proof level up to IPX3 or above;
Cold chain transportation: Match with EPS foam lining, and the carton can withstand low temperature ≥-20℃.
Compliance Requirements: Mandatory Standards for Target Markets
EU: Must comply with CE certification, carton heavy metal content ≤100mg/kg, and printing ink must pass REACH testing;
US: FBA warehouses require cartons with burst strength ≥200kPa and dimensional deviation ≤±3cm;
Japan: Must meet JIS Z 1507 standard, and the basis weight of corrugated medium ≥120g/㎡.
III. Practical Suggestions for B2B Selection
Conduct pre-tests with suppliers: Simulate stacking and vibration scenarios during transportation to avoid bulk cargo damage;
Flexibly customize according to order volume: Adopt customized corrugated structures for large-volume orders, and standard sizes for small-volume orders to reduce costs;
Reserve buffer space: The internal size of the carton is 5-8cm larger than the goods, paired with bubble film or EPE foam to improve protection effect.
